National School of Government
The National School of Government's purpose is to improve public services through high quality learning and development.
We are here to help public servants with issues like efficiency gains and cost saving, as well as improving skills in areas like leadership, policy and many of the key professions.
Public Service Leadership
We are committed to the improvement leadership in the public service and our Chief Executive chairs Public Service Leadership (PSL). Through PSL, we have supported a number of ground breaking initiatives such as the Worcestershire Leading Across the County Initiative and we are also developing a cross public sector top leaders programme aimed at improving leadership across the whole public service system with our PSL colleagues.
Training programmes
All of our training programmes are quality assured and evaluated. Many map against Professional Skills for Government (PSG). These include Strategic Leadership, Management Development and Policy.
Consultancy and organisation development
The National School supports departmental development objectives through consultancy and change creating activities. This includes Leadership Development, Change Programmes as well as addressing priorities such as Capability Reviews and cost saving.
Research and knowledge development
Our Sunningdale Institute Fellows generate new knowledge and ideas for the benefit of public services.
Events
We are responsible for high profile conferences focused on key issues facing the public sector such as the International Women's Conference, Civil Service Live and the Challenge of Delivery.
Virtual School
Our Virtual School is the result of pan-government collaboration with content that includes information security, human rights, organisation design and finance packages and, online community portals.
International work
We support the strategic priorities of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development through our work with international administrations to develop their organisations.
